Monday, August 18

Today really felt like first grade!!  We worked really hard at establishing some key components of our day to increase independence.  We practiced our "read to self" time during Daily 5.  The kids were excited to dive into their book boxes and get busy!  They built their stamina to 3 minutes of focused reading.  In the coming days we will work towards 20 minutes of stamina!

We unpacked some more of our new reading series to really explore number sense.  They kids worked on understanding one more and also partners of 5.  They are also getting really good at our daily routines.  In the picture below, Journey is explaining her thinking to her classmates!

During math groups kids were introduced to Mega Math.  This is a computer program you can access at the right and have kids practice Country Countdown level G at home.
Kids were also busy rolling number cubes and writing numbers from 0-25.
We even had a small group working with our new math para, Mrs. Burton.
Kids were also busy exploring math manipulatives.
It was a great way to spend a Monday!  Please remember that tomorrow is 1st Grade Parent Night at 6:30.  I promise to keep it brief with a Q&A session afterward.  Childcare will not be provided and I understand if you need to bring your kiddos with you.  Hope to see you there!!
