March 31

We had a busy morning!  We started learning about place value in the teen numbers.  The kids worked in teams to make chains for each teen number.  They were given ten black strips and and equation that said 10+__=(their teen number).  The teams had to figure out how many red strips to add to their chain and complete their equation.

After recess we took a plane ride to the Amazon rain forest!  The kids each had an official boarding pass!  We watched safety instructions, took off, and then looked out the window at the vast rain forest!
During small group time the kids were asked to pick a rain forest animal to research.  They could choose from poison dart frog, jaguar, blue morpho butterfly, or a boa constrictor.  Each group had books and interactive PowerPoints to learn from.  Their groups will write a report and paint their animal.  On April 11th they will present their animals to their classmates with painted faces!!  Don't forget to let me know if you would like to help out!
