December 12

I apologize for the lack of blog posts this week!  We have been adjusting to our world without Mrs. Burton.  I have been so lucky to have a wonderful group of mommies coming in to help!  I am happy to report that I visited with Mrs. Burton yesterday and she looked pretty good.  Hopefully the doctors continue to see improvement so that she is able to go home soon.  She was very happy to see the cards that were sent in!

In addition to tons of testing the kids have been having fun with our gingerbread theme unit.  We made gingerbread ornaments and wrote a three step instruction manual to get us ready for our big writing assessment next week.  They have listened to The Gingerbread Boy, The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Baby, The Gingerbread Man Loose on the Fire Truck, and The Gingerbread Pirates.  We have identified characters, settings, and retold each story and then compared and contrasted them.

In math we have practiced counting to 50, counting to 100 by 10s and ones, identified shapes and classified them as 2D or 3D.

We even have conducted a scientific investigation to determine what would have really happened if the Gingerbread Man crossed the river without the "help" of the fox.  We placed gingerbread cookies in water and observed them after 20 minutes and then 30 minutes.  It was really cute to watch our little scientists record their observations!

Tomorrow is the last day to purchase books from the book fair!  It is also PJ day!!
