Today was another day filled with healthy food! We started off reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The kids had fun sorting foods onto a caterpillar that is color coded to match the food pyramid. We discussed how when the caterpillar ate unhealthy foods he felt yucky but when he ate healthy he became a beautiful butterfly. The kiddos came up with sentences that completed "When I eat healthy I am as strong as_____."
After getting some exercise on this COLD day we came back in and read Gregory the Terrible Eater. Then we learned that some foods give you clues about how they help your body. We snapped a carrot in half to see an eye. A banana looks like your smile and helps you have healthy teeth. When we squeezed a tomato we saw oozy, red juice that reminded us of blood. When I broke celery it made a loud crack, just like a breaking bone. We also discussed that peaches are fuzzy and walnuts look like a brain. See if your kiddo can tell you how celery, carrots, tomatoes, bananas, peaches, and nuts help your body!
In math we are comparing 2D and 3D shapes. Today we looked at attributes of 3D shapes. We learned that the flat parts are called faces. We also discussed which ones could stack and which could roll.
Don't forget to send in those grocery sacks filled with canned goods and health care items! Our school goal is 1,000 items! Thank you so much for demonstrating kindness and generosity with your child!
