September 9

First, I need to apologize that there wasn't a blog update for Friday.  I had to leave early to take my son to the doctor.  However, while I was there the kids had a blast making a "license to drive" their 5 (or 6) year-old selves with their buddies.  They will be on display in our Monsterpiece gallery this week.

Today the kids worked on their Mm page gluing money and a picture of Mr. Mortenson to it!

Last week we celebrated the ways that we are unique and different.  This week we will be studying our bodies and the ways that we are the same.  We read the book We Are All Alike, We Are All Different.  The cool thing about this book is that it was written by a kindergarten class!  Then we moved into our circulatory system.  We learned that our heart pumps blood through our bodies.  We tried to feel it beat in our chests and in our pulses.  The kids marched around our rug while chanting songs about the jobs of the white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.  Then we colored paper hearts red and blue and glued them onto our paper people.

After recess we read the book Bear's Busy Family.  We talked about all of the characters that made up the family.  The kids also made predictions about what they family was getting ready for.  We learned 3 new vocabulary, prepare, feast, and gusto.

We concluded our day by finishing up some name projects from last week and celebrating our friend Gavyn's birthday!  The kids loved the yummy red velvet cupcakes!  Happy birthday!!
