January 30

Mrs. Pemberton kicked off our day by helping the kids create some sunflower art on the cover of their Kansas books.  When I returned from my meeting the kids were very quietly working away!  Mrs. Pemberton is one rockin' teacher!

After they finished up we used our white boards to write some c-v-c (consonant, vowel, consonant) words.  I gave them clues and they had to change one letter to make a new word.  They are getting really good at this activity!  While we are writing we pay attention to our handwriting, using lowercase letters, and make sure that they are in the correct position on the line.

We read The Perfect Spot and started discussing summarizing.  We defined "summarize" as, telling the story in your own words.  They did a good job telling their belly button what happened in the beginning, the middle, and the end.  They then summarized the story for a friend.  See if they can summarize it for you!

We defined three new fancy words; unfortunate, famished, and modify.

Today we went to the computer lab to work on our conference presentations.  We are still working through some glitches but I assure you they will be worth it!

To close out our day we worked on comparing two numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to.  The kids were introduced to a number cube game that they will play independently tomorrow morning.
