September 8

Last week we finally were able to establish a great routine as we officially started reading groups!  The kids are doing great during their independent Daily 5 time and I am really getting to know our readers!

 We have been doing on author study on one of my FAVORITE authors, Kevin Henkes!  On Friday we listened to Chester's Way, you can listen to it here.  We played a game called step in/step out about our likes and dislikes.  It helped show that everyone is different and that is okay!  The kids worked in teams to decorate a letter in the word UNIQUE.  Each team had a different bag of materials to use to ensure that each letter was truly special, just like everyone in our class!  It was a lot of fun!

 We also played a fun game to get our bodies moving and our brains thinking as we reviewed our Unit 1 math skills.  The kids were all set for their first math test today!

This week we will move to Unit 2 in reading and math.  We will continue learning about Kevin Henkes and his characters.  We will also celebrate Mikayla's birthday on Friday!

If you haven't already turned in your fundraiser packet please do so tomorrow!  PTO is busy tabulating!  I can't wait to get some great stuff for our classroom!!

A BIG thank you to everyone who ordered scholastic books!  I was able to get THIRTEEN FREE books for our classroom!  I am so excited to share them with the kids!  I will be sending a new order form home by next week and it will be due at the end of the month.
