September 28

Last week we had a great time learning about Kansas symbols!  We ate a snack that looked like Kansas, made sunflower art, and learned about our local government at City Hall.

This week we are focusing on the short /o/ sound.  Please be sure that you are practicing the sight word list at home, if you need another one please let me know!  The books we are focusing on during reading groups are starting to get more challenging and we need that good sight word knowledge to help us read more fluently!

The kids and I are very excited about our field trip on Thursday!  We began learning about the butterfly life cycle and metamorphosis.  Please be sure that your child is dressed in their Eagle shirt and comfortable shoes.  They will also need to have a disposable sack lunch that we will eat at Celebration Park.  We should be back to school around 1:30.  Let me know if you have any questions!

In math we are working on our subtraction strategies.  Please be sure to ask your student to tell you how they solved their math problems on their homework!  It is important that they are practicing their "math talk" at home too!  We will wrap up this unit next week with a test before conference week.
