April 1

The kids started their day by helping me take down the March calendar and getting it ready for April!  We took turns taking down numbers by solving addition problems.  I think they had a lot of fun with it.

We learned about the different parts of a friendly letter, the greeting, body, closing, and signature.  We started writing a letter to Mr. Mortenson that we will finish up tomorrow.

It may not have been as nice as it was yesterday but we enjoyed some recess anyway!

We read Good Morning Little Polar Bear.  It was a rhyming book that told us about different animals that lived in the Artic.  We paid close attention to some of the words the author used.

During our reading group time this week we will be writing reports about some rain forest animals.  Today we wrote about what our animals look like and what layer they live in.  Ask your child if they are a butterfly, ocelot, toucan, or monkey!

In math we began talking about fast subtraction.  We read Five Little Monkeys to stress that when we subtract by one it is just like counting backwards.  Then the kids partnered up to play a subtraction train game.
