January 7

Happy New Year!!  We had a lot of fun during our first day back.  The kids were so well behaved!  We had a nice long morning meeting so that we all had a chance to share out what was special about our winter break.  I heard that many girls got new American Girl dolls!  It sounds like homes with boys have many things flying through the air, Nerf darts and disks, rockets, etc!  My heart smiled as one of our friends shared that his favorite thing about break was "going to a food pantry to give food to people who didn't have money."

The kids were surprised to enter our "cave" of a classroom!  We are studying hibernation this week.  We read Above and Below the Snow and thought about the different animals that burrow underground to stay warm in the winter.  They are all pretty excited to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffed animal on Friday!

We were detectives during the read aloud of Chugga-Chugga Choo Choo.  The kids looked for clues that told them where the story happened and the time of day.  We learned three new fancy words; load, steep, and bound.

After reading groups we practiced writing our numbers and talked about all of the cool things going on in January.  The kids worked really hard to "beat the clock" so that I could keep up with my New Year's goal of getting the kids out on time in 2013!

It was so great to see all of your kids' smiling faces this morning!  I sure did miss them!
